Portable Convection Heaters rely on the transmission of heat to a room by means of drawing air over a heat exchanger. Air is drawn from within the room through the back of the heater. The fan outputs the warm air into the room through the bottom of the heater. This form of heating is popular for its discrete appearance and safety through a lack of exposed hot surfaces.

Portable Radiant Heaters do not have a fan and utilises the radiant heat generated at the face of the ceramic tiles to heat the room. This form of heating is the most popular for both its warming glow appearance and the immediate direct warmth it generates.
